It’s from the mid-fifties and that’s all the information you’re getting out of me. If no one guesses it, I will reveal the answer later today.

Corvair ramp side cab over?
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:05 |

I think that too
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:06 |

Those were aircooled. I'm pretty sure we're looking at a radiator
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:06 |

Nope. The Corvair came out in the early sixties and is rear-engined.

Ford van thing.?
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:07 |

Nope.

tesla model X duh
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:08 |

Still nope. Hint: the chassis in the picture is mid-engine, front wheel drive.

Some van. Maybe a Chevy Postal Van?
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:09 |

No, but the vehicle does have one similarity with the Model X.

Ok I see now. But not production?
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:09 |

Close, but no.

DKW Schnellaster
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:12 |
|
No, but good guess!
The DKW’s engine is in front of the front axle, though, whereas the one in my picture is mid-engined.

Ya it wasn’t an exact match but I wasn’t finding a whole lot of 50s FWD cab over designs
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:15 |

Not a Corvan, but yes it didn’t make it to production.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:16 |

Here’s a hint: the chassis in my picture is from a concept.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:16 |

Mid-front. Got it.

I cheated and I know what it is, but I’ll keep it to myself.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:21 |

That led me to the answer (I think)....very cool.
Dreamy!

It’s from the 1950's.
GIB PRIZE NO WSSSS!
![]() 08/12/2020 at 15:46 |

It was the FWD that gave it away
Edit: not first.

4 wheels?
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:26 |

Some sort of early cab over American can or van based pickup. Was it mass produced? Thinking Dodge here.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:28 |

It was envisioned as the van of the future, but never went into production. Also, it has a Pontiac engine.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:30 |

BINGO! That’s the one.
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:31 |

That is it. You win the honor of being correct!
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:32 |

Correct!
![]() 08/12/2020 at 16:52 |

And rear gullwing doors!
![]() 08/12/2020 at 17:02 |

Mid-engine, FWD, cab-over... that’s something special, for sure!
Must be a bitch-a

So it is the van the Toyota Previa copied that we don't know about. Got it.

I wonder what it would have been like to drive one of these. Sitting pretty much on top of the front axle, way up at the front.
I hope with EVs, we see a return to more fun deviations from the standard vehicle shape.

Agreed. As much as I’m usually not a fan of EVs, I do like how they seem to have brought some joy back into car design. I like the clean shape of the Model 3, the Taycan looks stunning, and the various electric truck concepts out there right now are some of the best-looking new trucks in decades IMO. And if people start making kit cars based on these EV platforms, I’m sure we’ll see even more innovative car designs!

jeep COE?

Answer was already revealed. It’s the 1955 GMC L’Universelle concept, which is a mid-engine, FWD van concept.
